Remains of the Day: Amazon Sells Out of the Kindle Paperwhite, New Orders Delayed [For What It's Worth]

Remains of the Day: Amazon Sells Out of the Kindle Paperwhite, New Orders DelayedAmazon sells out of its newest Kindle, the HootSuite all-in-one social network client comes to IFTTT, Facebook promotes your status updates for $7, and Google launches Google Wallet for web content,

  • Amazon Sells Out of Kindle Paperwhite! Amazon has already sold out of its new, frontlit Kindle Paperwhite, and is limiting new orders to two devices per customer. The new devices are expected to ship within 4 to 6 weeks, so if you're thinking about a Paperwhite for a holiday gift, order it soon! [Me and My Kindle]
  • HootSuite Channel IFTTT, our favorite tool for automating webapps, has added a channel for HootSuite, the all-in-one social networking client. HootSuite users will be happy, but what this really means is that IFTTT finally has some support for Google+, since you can post to Google+ through IFTTT. [IFTTT]
  • Testing Promoted Posts for People in the U.S. In a somewhat silly move, Facebook now lets you "promote" your own personal statuses for $7, which bumps it higher in your friends' news feeds. This feature may not be useful for personal users, but if you use your Facebook profile for business, we could see it being handy. [Facebook Newsroom]
  • Google officially launches Google Wallet for web content Google has officially launched a new feature for Google Wallet that uses your Wallet account to pay for content online. That means you can easily subscribe to paywalled sites with your Google account. Right now, it supports a few partners, including Oxford University Press, DK Publishing, and Pearson's Peachpit. • Amazon Quietly Begins The Long Road To Closed Captioning Its Streaming Video Library Now that the FCC has required online media companies to subtitle their video content, Amazon has started subtitling some of their streaming videos. It only works on the web, and not all videos are subtitled yet, but you can see which ones are by going to the Instant Video store and using the "Subtitles & Closed Captioning" filter in the left column.
