NBA: Clippers hold off Heat, as Griffin and Paul too much for LeBron

The Los Angels Clippers made it four straight victories with a 107-100 win over the Miami Heat, Wednesday (Thursday, PHL time) at the Staples Center in LA, although the game wasn't quite as close as the final score would indicate.

Trailing by two points entering halftime, 54-52, the Clippers exploded with a 15-4 run to take a 67-62 lead with 7:50 left in the third, following five straight points by forward Caron Butler.

A triple by Shane Battier and three straight charities by Chris Bosh pulled the Heat within a point, 69-68, but Chris Paul rebuilt LA's lead back up to 10, with eight straight from the crafty floor general, 82-72.

Come the fourth, a pair of free throws by LeBron James made it a single-digit affair for the Heat, 85-76, but Clippers reserve guard Eric Bledsoe made a mockery of the reigning NBA champs, scoring eight straight to inflate his side's advantage to 93-76.

The Clippers reserves kept up the pressure, as Jamal Crawford, Ryan Hollins, and Matt Barnes countered a free throw by Ray Allen and a fadeaway by James, 98-79, 7:12 left in the game.

Another Crawford jumper made it a 20-point affair, 104-84, and though the Heat reeled off nine straight to get within 11, charities by Blake Griffin and Barnes gave their side enough of a cushion, 107-93. After a block by Griffin on James, Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra pulled out his starters and waved the white flag with 2:28 remaining.

LeBron James had a game-best 30 points, but his supporting cast of Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade combined for only 17 markers in support of him. Ray Allen came up with 14 off the bench, while Rashard Lewis added 11.

Wade was a game-time decision, following an ankle injury suffered in their last win against the Houston Rockets. Though he got the nod to play, he was hardly effective, shooting a mere 2-of-10 from the field and leaving James to do the heavy lifting.

The Clippers were led by Jamal Crawford's off-the-bench production, as the super-sub scored 22 in 23 minutes. Blake Griffin added 20 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and two blocks, while Chris Paul controlled the game with 16 points and 10 dimes.

The game was close for the first three quarters, as the two teams fought to 14 deadlocks and 17 lead-changes, but the Clippers' dug deep late for their fourth straight win, to improve to 6-2, on top of the Pacific Division. Miami on the other hand, suffered their second loss of the season, to fall to 6-2. - AMD, GMA News
